Product Review: Balega Running Socks

I have been a long time fan of Feetures! socks and though I have tried many others, none have even come close until now. I had heard about these Balega socks, but I figured they were just “socks” and didn’t look like anything special, even though people raved about them. I was given two pairs to review. I will go into detail about each.

First let’s talk about the ENDURO: NO SHOW sock.

The minute I slipped these on, I knew instantly that they were different. Sure socks can feel pretty good on your feet, but these were amazing! Soft, cushy, and a perfect fit. I’m in love!    Let me show you what I mean:

Notice all the different yarns and stitching in these socks. All these different colored areas have a purpose The pink area is the cushiest, and wraps all the way down the bottom of the foot and up around the heel. You can see the thickness of the yarn. Understand though, that even though it is thick, it isnt thick.. haha. It’s cushy but not big and bulky.

If you look closely you can see the detail stitching in the toe area. Great ventilation, yet tough and durable.

No seam to bother your skin.

Here are the tech specs:

  • Hand linked toe closure
  • Reinforced heel and toe
  • Mesh construction for ventilation
  • Medium volume construction
  • Arch support for all day comfort
  • Sensitive rib top for added comfort
  • Heel tab helps prevent the sock from slipping into your running shoe
  • Elegant new mesh pattern

Was I able to find anything negative about these socks?  No. I think these are the perfect summer running socks.

Now lets talk about the SECOND SKIN: ULTRALIGHT

These are a TOTALLY different sock than the Enduro’s. These are thin, thin, thin, but feel amazing. You don’t even feel like you have socks on!

These are fantastic light summer socks. Your feet will not get hot with these on. The only issue I had was when I was running, my feet were sliding around in my shoes. I am used to wearing a thicker sock, even Merino ones, year round. Having a thin sock was a totally new experience for me, and I did like them very much! But I think that because I wear a size running shoe larger than my foot, there is extra room, and the softness of the yarn, made it a little too slippery for my taste. I will however wear them with all my regular shoes because I love them that much. They also come in some other awesome colors, both mens (unisex) and womens.

Here are the tech specs:

Reinforced cushioned heel and toe for comfort and durability
Broad elastic arch support in both the arch and ankle firmly keep the sock in place
Heel tab aids in preventing the sock slipping into your running shoe
Balega’s Left/Right construction method ensures the perfect fit
Sculptured mesh panels aid in ventilation
Trademark Balega hand-linked seamless toe
Unique triple Y heel creates a heel pocket which in ergonomically formed to the actual shape of your heel. In essence this creates a more formed and deeper heel pocket for ultimate fit and comfort.

So, now the all important question? Would I purchase these products?  Absolutely! I will be buying a few pairs of these for my summer wear. I will have to stick to Merino though, for the winter runs. My feet get extremely cold all winter and I often have to put some warmers in my shoes just to be able to walk/run outside in the winter. Those combined with Merino wool socks is a winning combination for me.  But for summer ? You bet I will be buying these!
