Product Review: Sport-it Waist Pack Belt

I was sent this waist-pack from the Go Sport It  company. I have been looking carefully at the various types of running belts on the market. Note: because this is a running blog, I refer to it as a running belt. In fact, you could wear this for any purpose at all, from traveling to taking part in any sport or exercise.

This is a fabric type of sleeve belt that slips around your waist to hold your “stuff” while you are on the go.

Here are some of the basic features:

  • Two colors, black or light grey
  • 5 sizes, from XS to XL
  • 3 holes on the inside to slip your stuff (keys, cash, cards, phone, snacks etc…) into
  • Width of the belt is 3 6/8 inches

Now let’s get into the details of the product.  Overall, I feel that the top and bottom seams are very well done and sturdy. The inside slits are two different sizes. There is one that is about 4 inches in length, on the left side. I would assume that would be the one to slide a phone into. The other two are about 1 1/2 inches long, which would be fine for smaller items. the slits are towards the top of the band, which means you would need to pay attention to putting it on right side up. As long as you look at the brand name on the outside, you’d be all set.

I read some of the other reviews and many people had complained that it was too tight and didn’t stretch. Being of a larger stature, I ordered the XL. It fit fine, but was a little more snug that I am used to. The problem with that, is the reflective strip that goes around the outside of the band. If you order the incorrect size, and you over stretch the belt, the reflective stripe will start to fray off and separate, but ya know, that happens with any fabric that has something painted into it, such as a design on a t-shirt. You have to expect that reflective coatings don’t last forever. However, I would think the company might see if they could come up with another method. Maybe instead of a stripe, putting the logo every 3-4 inches all the way around. This would give more stretch to the fabric, and not cause the fraying of the reflective paint. Also, I noticed when I took the belt off that I had overstretched it and it became very ruffled. It does not detract from the integrity of the belt though. When washing it, I might consider putting it in a lingerie bag to help preserve the reflective stripe.

Would I buy this product?  Well compared to some of the other brands out there on the market, the price for this belt is $18.95 for all sizes. Larger people don’t get charged a higher price which is a big plus in my book. Comparing to some of the other brands, the others range from $18.00 to $30.00.  Some of the others do not have a full reflective strip around them. And considering that some runners would wear this at night for the reflectivity, I think it would serve the purpose just fine.  So to answer my question above, yes, I would buy this product. It serves the purpose if you aren’t worried about details and don’t want to spend double the amount of money for a few more slits, and lots of color choices.   #GoSportit  You can find this product for sale on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Sport-Waist-Pack-activities-Reflective/dp/B00NY8EP1U

The slits in this belt are near the top of the belt. I wouldn’t want to put it on upside down and have my phone fall out.
