Chapter 1- The Beginning

Where do I begin? My story actually started a year ago. At the beginning of 2010, I found myself to be heavier than ever, and facing numerous health issues. With the help of my husband, and the prompting of my health provider, I decided to try to get back to the healthy state I had been in my younger years. Yes, I was now 48, instead of being in my 20’s, and 100 lbs heavier, but I figured it couldn’t be that hard to do…..

We joined the gym at our local University and started walking, running and exercising. In my mind, I was still in my 20’s in top form, and a serious runner. My body however, was NOT going to co-operate. Long story short, I ended up with a serious ankle injury and had to have surgery to repair it.  (For the full story see my previous blog: Dreaming Full Circle )   Now, it’s almost a year later, and I’m ready to try again.

I just loved the story about our now locally famous “Sole Sisters” aka the “Sporty Moms” group.  Their stories and personal triumphs have inspired me to try again to reach that state of health that I used to have in my younger, leaner years. I know this goal is attainable, but it will take time and a lot of will power on my part to be successful.

My goal for this summer is to be able to run a 5K race of some sort. Last year I was able to walk the Komen Race for the Cure here in Bangor, which I thought was pretty good for only being 4.5 months post ankle surgery.  The ability to RUN a race this summer would prove to myself that I CAN DO THIS. I CAN. I CAN.

I’m hoping that any of you out there that have been through this weight loss journey back to health might feel inspired to send any motivation my way.  I assure you I will cherish every note or word sent in my direction.
